ONCE again Henley Ladies let victory slip from their grasp, returning from Eastcote without any points.
The visitors started confidently with Emma Hedges, Charlotte Cockerton and Billie Moore up front hounding the Eastcote defence, allowing them little time to make decisions.
Jem Barham and Lou England in the centre midfield created a dynamic partnership which saw them create chances while leaving no gaps for Eastcote to capitalise on.
Rotating wide midfielders Georgie Metcalfe, Emma Walker and Ellie Roseff ensured the team used all the space of the pitch available while a well-drilled defence of Kath Draycott, Sophie Hoskins, Meg Moran and Kat Green put in precision tackles and marked players out of the game, supported by Hannah Lavis in goal who gave a solid performance.
None-the-less, Eastcote held firm and Henley were unable to capitalise on the lion’s share of possession, only being awarded one short corner in the first 35 minutes.
Henley started the second half in much the same manner and they were soon rewarded when youngster Billie Moore pounced on a goalmouth scramble to put the ball over the line.
However, poor control of the game by the umpires, and a lack of mental strength from the Henley side, soon saw the visitors lose confidence and mistakes began to slip in.
Ten minutes from time and an error in the D gifted the hosts with an opportunity to equalise; Henley unravelled further and Eastcote scored the winner from a quick attack into the D and an unstoppable strike into the top corner of the goal.
