Amber and blues back to winning ways

HENLEY Ladies 1sts got back to winning ways as they defeated Milton Keynes at Jubilee Park on Saturday.

From the start Henley soaked up the pressure and despite numerous Milton Keynes short corners the hosts’ defensive short corner team held strong.

Taking the lead was captain Georgie Metcalfe, who drove down the right, beating players into the D and a straight strike found the back in the goal.

In the second half Henley kept their composure and made the Milton Keynes goalkeeper work hard.

A well-worked short corner routine from Henley saw Kat Green strike the ball for Louisa England to deflect it past the keeper.

A break of play saw Milton Keynes overload the defence and pull a goal back but Henley held firm and worked hard to ensure they secured all three points.

HENLEY LADIES 1sts made it back-to-back wins on Sunday as they ran out 3-0 winners at Oxford Hawks.

During a rocky start and intense pressure from the Oxford Hawks, Henley fought well, and managed the pressure defensively with good composure from Kat Green at right back providing cover across the whole of the back of the pitch and Kath Draycott stepping in to make some crucial and perfectly timed tackles.

Shortly after the breakdown of a short corner the ball was picked off by Meg Moran who sprinted from the halfway line, took on two Oxford defenders, dodged another one on the edge of the circle and took an early shot which powered into the net.

In the second half Billie Moore managed to earn Henley another short corner penalty which Green slid with pace and accuracy to the left post of the goal where Georgie Metcalfe took a final touch to score. From another penalty corner the ball was injected to Green who this time found the bottom left of the goal to make it 3-0.

The two wins in two days have now secured Henley’s position in Division 3A for another season.
