Henley promotion ambitions take a battering

HENLEY went into this game knowing that a win would really put pressure on other teams around them in the league and put them in a good position for their promotion chances come the end of this season.

Both teams started off well and the tempo of the game reflected what a victory would mean to both sides battling for the three valuable points available.

Henley soon got a bit more possession of the ball and the midfield pairing of Joyce and Hetherington were starting to boss the game.

The first chance fell to Henley forward Green, who with a one-on-one with the Ashford keeper failed to convert.

Ashford appeared to be really struggling to break through the new-look Henley defence of Gaze, Herbert and Mortimer, but it wasn’t long before a few short corners were awarded to the home side.
