HENLEY LADIES 1sts crashed to a heavy 7-1 defeat away to last season’s Division 2 runners-up Surbiton on Saturday.
The first half saw Henley hold the visitors for the most part but midway through the deadlock was broken and some smart interplay led to Surbiton’s first goal.
Henley fought back and a fine ball from Lyn from the half way found Buckham lurking in the circle. The Surbiton defender, in her attempt to win back the ball, fouled Buckham and Henley won their first short corner. A well worked routine saw Herbert slip the ball right and Karver was waiting on the far post to knock the ball home from the strike.
Henley, buoyed by the goal, soon mounted some more attacks but were unable to convert and Surbiton finished the half with two quick goals.
The second half started poorly for Henley and they conceded four goals in a 15-minute period.
