England strikes enough to secure derby win

A LOUISE ENGLAND goal was enough for Henley Ladies 1sts to defeat local rivals Marlow at Jubilee Park.

The home team started well and were quick to mount attacks on the visitors and it was the Marlow goalkeeper who was the busiest in the first half.

Henley came close on a number of occasions but the Marlow keeper was too sharp and managed to turn aside every attempt from the hosts.

At the other end Marlow could only muster one shot towards goal but that whistled wide without troubling Lavis in the Henley goal.

The second half saw Henley keep up the pressure and a flowing attack, started from the back, allowed Henley to win a short corner only 10 minutes in. A well worked routine from Georgie Metcalfe to Kat Green allowed top goal scorer England to slot the ball home.

Henley worked hard to capitalise on their lead and came close to adding two or three more but the Marlow keeper was in fine form and managed to keep out any further attempts.

The last 10 minutes of the second half became scrappy and two yellow cards for the home side gave Marlow some hope. However, Henley held on to secure all three points with Green picking up the player-of-the-match award.
