HENLEY, who were missing several regular players, came from 2-0 down to secure all three MBB&O Regional Division 1 points at Ashford last Saturday.
Ashford started with a strong pace and tempo, with Henley forced to sit back and absorb the pressure.
Henley were communicating well and had started to force Ashford on to the back foot, when they conceded a freak goal. The Ashford lead was soon doubled as a penalty corner was flicked home past Cox in the Henley goal.
This turned out to be the only penalty corner that Henley conceded, as Henley’s defenders responded smartly to the challenge ahead. As the half progressed, Henley began to dominate and created a number of gilt-edged chances, with R Woolfrey hitting the post from three yards out.
On the stroke of half-time, a well-constructed sequence of passes gave Mortimer the opportunity to drive into the area and unleash a reverse stick shot into the bottom right-hand corner.
In the second half Henley continued to have the most of the play, searching relentlessly for the equaliser.
The visitors went close to levelling the scores when Foster provided a cross that found Green with time and space inches from the line but he could not convert.
Soon after the Ashford team responded vociferously to some debatable umpiring calls for which they were rewarded with a number of stern words and a yellow card.
Eventually Woolfrey proved his class with a prod home to level the scores.
With minutes to play midfielder Herbert carried the ball up the left flank before releasing Green, who coolly slotted home the winner.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Henley entertain Oxford 1sts at Jubilee Park (kick-off 1.30pm).
