Colleges battle out draw

LORD Wandsworth College hit back to draw at Shiplake College last week.

LORD Wandsworth College hit back to draw at Shiplake College last week.

A spell of patient possession was rewarded with a goal for the hosts after just 10 minutes. James Riley picked up a loose ball outside the D, carried the ball into the area and finished coolly to the keeper’s left-hand side.

Shiplake continued to dominate but failed to make significant progress down the flanks. When they tried the more direct route Lord Wandsworth College central defenders read the play and made some well-timed interceptions and tackles.

Frustrated by their inability to create clear chances Shiplake undertook some tactical changes at half-time.

Midway through the second half the visitors mounted a counterattack to score the equaliser.

As the clock ran down Shiplake maintained their territorial superiority but could not find a way through the visitors’ well-organised defence.
