HENLEY Hockey Club was delighted to play host to the Years 3 and 4 Primary Schools Hockey Tournament with the support of GLL who kindly donated the use of Jubilee Park artificial pitch. The event was supported by local primary schools with each of Shiplake, Sacred Heart, St Mary’s, Trinity and Valley Road entering teams.

The teams were split into two groups each competing in the seven-a-side tournament, with some excellent hockey on display from all schools.

St Mary’s topped group one with three wins and one draw, with Valley Road coming second with the same results but losing out to St Mary’s on goal difference. Sacred Heart topped group two winning all of their matches, with Valley Road again coming second and setting up a Valley Road vs Valley Road play-off for third place.

St Mary’s met Sacred Heart in the final. Sacred Heart made a strong start with an early goal from Enzo Cheesman demonstrating some excellent individual skill. St Mary’s fought back with strong attacking play from Monty Heath and Lachlan Nye but they were unable to penetrate the Sacred Heart defence.

Sacred Heart were able to hold on to their early lead to win the final 1-0 with St Mary’s finishing runners-up.
