NATIONAL Trophy winners Henley drew at home to losing finalists Sonning on Saturday in a pre-season friendly.

Although they were missing six of their regular first team players, the amber and blues welcomed back Becky Karver for a one-off appearance as she visited the club on a trip back from America.

Henley had a good first half with goals from open play by newcomer Tally Fisher and one from Serena Hickman at a short corner saw the home team go into the half-time break 2-0 up.

The second 35 minutes was a different story as Sonning hit back with two goals to level the score.

On Sunday Henley defeated London Wayfarers 3-2 at Jubilee Park. The visitors took a two goal lead in a game that was played in three 25-minute periods. In the second period a succession of attacking short corners saw captain Rachel Herbert score two goals from straight strikes.

Going into the final third, the home team continued their drive forward, leaving the Wayfarers little to offer in return. Further attacks resulted in more shots on goal and short corners, and a well worked routine saw Mel Joyce strike the ball across the D to a waiting Hickman on the penalty spot to deflect the ball past the keeper.

Some vital saves from new Henley goalkeeper Jen Sawyer saw the amber and blues hold on for a 3-2 win.
