HENLEY U14s opened their Oxfordshire League season with a convincing home win against Wallingford.

The hosts made a cautious start but were soon demonstrating good attacking play. Good individual skill by Fred Newbold saw Henley take the lead from the edge of the D.

Watkins added a second with a goal off the corner post before Sherman made it 3-0 shortly after.

Wallingford fought back but strong defensive play from Elliot Wiseman and good saves from keeper Tim Herbert kept the score sheet clean for the hosts. Newbold added his second of the match to make it 4-0 just before half-time.

In the second half Henley began to demonstrate good individual skill with Harry Wray, Rupert Wiseman and James Rechner all creating attacking opportunities.

Excellent individual skill saw Cheesman carve through the Wallingford defence to score the opening goal of the second half. Shots on the Wallingford keeper came thick and fast after the opening goal.

Watkins scored his second of the match before Newbold completed his hat-trick to make it 7-0.

Cheesman then added his second of the match before Wiseman netted to complete the scoring.
