Henley close the gap at the top after taking derby clash honours

A LATE goal ensured hosts Henley 2nds picked up all three points from their MBBO Division 2 clash with Newbury

A LATE goal ensured hosts Henley 2nds picked up all three points from their MBBO Division 2 clash with Newbury and Thatcham 2nds at Jubilee Park.

The initial build-up play from Henley was slow, with passes misfired in varying directions while the early tentativeness from Newbury faded as their possession increased.

Midway through the first half the away team started to press in attack and on the back foot Henley were unable to clear their lines and allowed an easily converted opportunity to concede.

In the second half, through some steady passing and possession, Henley gained control and created some chances. Good play from Wiseman at the back gave Wood, Harmer and Hughes-Burne the opportunity for McLovin to equalise.

Henley continued to push high and were rewarded in the last minute of the game. Maidlow and Hughes-Burne worked well on the left to gain a penalty corner. Hughes-Burne reacted fastest to the keeper’s save and the three points were earned.

Henley 2nds: Ryan Foggoa, Alex Price, Chris Maidlow, Guy Harmer, Ian Roberts, Jack Draycott, James Wood, Jeremy Hughes-Burne, John Boumphrey, Oscar Wiseman, Rowan Austin, Terry Pollard, Cass Cheeseman, John McLovin.
