A YOUTHFUL Henley side picked up another three MBBO Regional Division 1 point, as they defeated Older Merchant Taylors at Jubilee Park on Saturday.
Within the new look formation, with the hosts missing four regular players, Henley skipper Roy Cox recalled John McLovin after a spell in the second team and handed youngster Oscar Wiseman a first team debut.
The hosts took an early lead through Ed Foster. The visitors then capitalised on a rare piece of weak defending from Henley to draw level before Geoff Joseph bagged a neat finish just before half-time to restore his side’s lead.
The second half continued with Henley having most of the possession. Wiseman warranted his selection with some fine play in the back line but it was the visitors who capitalised once again taking a quick free hit to score with Benji Hetherington still being spoken to by the umpires.
This spurred the home side on and both Chris Green and John McLovin went close to restoring the lead.
Jonny Taylor put the amber and blues back in front with his fifth goal of the season before Hetherington scored his sides fourth of the match to secure the win.
HENLEY 4ths ran out comfortable winners away to local rivals Sonning 6ths in their top of the table Division 10 West MBBO Open League clash on Saturday.
Henley fielded six schoolboys and saw their defence of Newbold, Wiseman, Watkins senior and Williams hold firm from the Sonning onslaught. Henley kept their shape and with good passing the first goal came via Rechner senior from a short corner.
Good work between the two forwards of Watkins junior and Mortimer led to another short corner, which Mortimer converted with a deflection.
The two wide players in the form of Rechner junior and Clarke continued to stretch the Sonning team with precise passing and movement.
Herbert made a fine individual run into the Sonning D which led to a short corner. Rechner senior rattled his shot against the cross bar and Rechner junior followed up and converted to complete the scoring.
Sonning continued to attack but with some good saves from Boydell in the Henley goal another clean sheet was achieved.
Henley 4ths: B Boydell, R Wiseman, E Newbold, J Williams, M Watkins, J Rechner, T Herbert, I Rechner, A Clarke, E Watkins, A Mortimer.
