Hawks downed

HENLEY BOYS continued their unbeaten run at the weekend with an 8-1 victory over Oxford Hawks.

HENLEY BOYS continued their unbeaten run at the weekend with an 8-1 victory over Oxford Hawks.

Missing a couple of key regular players the side needed to adapt to a few changes in position and they rose to the challenge and after a cautious start Henley began to show the attacking play they have demonstrated all season.

Nico Cheesman opened the scoring with a first time strike which rocketed past the keeper. Good link-up play followed between Cheesman and Newbold which resulted in Newbold’s opening goal struck from the top of the D.

With Sam Brown and Dino Cheesman up front acting as target men, the opportunities on goal continued. Individual skill from Brown carved a way through the Hawks defence to place a simple ball in front of Newbold to pop home from short range.

An opening goal for Brown followed off a sweetly executed short corner routine with a second to follow from a simple placed ball past the keeper.

Following a 5-0 opening start to the game, Hawks brought the game to Henley in the second half with more attacking play.

Rupert Wiseman and Jules Alpin in defence continued to soak up the pressure and it was only the accuracy of a short corner routine which resulted in a goal for Hawks leaving little the Henley keeper Tim Herbert could do.

Dino’s determination up front finally paid off with a debut goal for the side from a ball placed neatly in front of him by Brown.

Brown assisted in the next goal played to the post for Newbold to see home before securing a final goal for himself with a reverse strike which whistled past the keeper.
