Drummond brace helps freeze out hosts

HENLEY Ladies 3rds picked up all three points from their trip to Milton Keynes on Saturday.

HENLEY Ladies 3rds picked up all three points from their trip to Milton Keynes on Saturday.

Henley started on the front foot and were passing well throughout the team and it wasn’t long before they were rewarded with their first short corner. Defender Wise came up from the back to take control of the well-rehearsed set piece. White pushed out to Wise who took one touch before slotting the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

The game continued to flow with Taylor and Slay working well together in the centre of the park, passing out wide to White and Drummond who were able to push forward.

As half-time approached Henley were awarded another short corner. This time Roseff passed on to Taylor whose shot was stopped by a Milton Keynes player’s foot. As the umpire blew for half time, with the corner being the final play, the whole Henley team surrounded the D. The ball was controlled again by Roseff who shot towards the right hand post. The defender picked up the ball but was soon tackled by Reineke who remained calm and saw her shot nestle itself in the back of the Milton Keynes net.

In the second half the hosts controlled the game for the first 10 minutes as their striker managed to work her way through the Henley defence with only keeper Hardy to beat. Hardy got her pads quickly to the lifted shot only for it to fall to their other striker who pushed home from two yards out.

Henley pushed forward in numbers and good link-up play by Rainbow and White beat the Milton Keynes midfield. White passed on towards Roseff who was charged down by the home defenders. Drummond made a good run in towards the D and met Roseff’s pass to score.

With the two goal cushion re-established Roseff collected the ball just inside the D and drove towards the base line. Drummond again timed her run well, picking up the ball just in front of the keeper and scoring again.

With the pitch starting to freeze, time was called five minutes before the end as Henley collected all three points.

Henley Ladies 3rds: Nicky Hardy, Di Wise, Kate Forster, Sophie Rainbow, Ellen Slay, Sarah Evans, Claire Taylor, Megan Parker, Sarah Drummond, Emily White, Karen Roseff, Mae Reineke, Vicki Smith.
