Buckham's goal puts side into last four

INVESTEC Women's Trophy holders Henley 1sts progressed to this year's semi-finals after defeating North Notts 2-1 at Jubilee Park on Sunday.

Henley, winners of the competition for the last two years, faced a tough challenge against a side they had narrowly defeated in the semi-finals two years previously.

The hosts soon got into their stride playing the ball around well and working hard to create attacks.

However, it was North Notts who got the first shot on goal with keeper Lavish on her toes to keep the scores equal.

After that it was Henley who put the pressure on the visitors' defence and following a 20 minute spell a well-worked short corner led to captain Herbert getting the final touch to give the hosts the lead.

The second half saw Henley keep the pressure on and they doubled their lead shortly into the second half from another short corner when Herbertâ??s strike was tipped home at the far post by Buckham.

The visitors responded well and pulled a goal back with 10 minutes of the match remaining.

This set up a nervous climax as both teams came close to scoring but good saves from Lavish at the finish made sure Henley progressed to the semi-finals, away to Newent on March 22.
