Mixed fortunes for St Mary’s sides

HENLEY’S St Mary’s School hosted St Edwards in two seven-a-side fixtures.

HENLEY’S St Mary’s School hosted St Edwards in two seven-a-side fixtures.

The St Mary’s A team put in an outstanding performance against the might of St Edward’s in a fixture comprising four matches.

After a slow start in the first game, in which St Mary’s conceded three goals, the team made a few tactical changes in positions and came out a different side in the second game. Toby Phillips and Monty Heath showed pace down the flanks to stretch the St Edward’s defence and it was not long before Phillips was rewarded with an opening goal but St Mary’s conceded two goals late in the game.

The third match saw St Mary’s up the tempo yet again. Phillips was soon on the score board again after some outstanding individual skill, followed closely by an assist for Thomas Harding to pop over the goal line to score.

In the final game St Edward’s could not absorb the pressure any longer and a final goal from Phillips saw victory for the St Mary’s side.

The St Mary’s B team suffered a heavy 10-0 defeat in their match.
