Table toppers leave it late to sink amber and blues
A GOAL three minutes from time saw hosts Henley lose out to league leaders Buckingham 2nds at Jubilee
A GOAL three minutes from time saw hosts Henley lose out to league leaders Buckingham 2nds at Jubilee Park last Saturday.
The home team took to the pitch in determined mood and high tempo start saw both teams causing problems for the defences.
Henley made the first breakthrough with a well worked short corner. Kat Green played a disguise pass to Jem Barham on the far post, and this left the Buckingham keeper scrambling to try and make up the ground without success.
The amber and blues sustained increased amounts of pressure as the half went on but worked hard as a team to snuff out any threat. Good closing work from the forwards and tenacious midfield play kept the visitors at bay until the last two minutes of the half. As Buckingham broke dangerously into the circle Green made a goal saving tackle only for the umpire to adjudge it to have been a foul. The visitors scored from the resulting penalty flick.
The second half saw Henley take the game to Buckingham again and they went close to scoring from further short corners, particularly when Green was pulled down as she was about to put the ball in the back of the net but nothing was given.
Henley held on until the last three minutes when Buckingham were awarded a short corner. The ball appeared to have gone out of play before the award but the umpire hadn’t seen it and Buckingham converted to make it 2-1.
