A CALAMITOUS start from Henley meant they had to settle for a point forcing them to wait to be crowned Middx, Berks, Bucks and Oxon Division 2 champions.
For the first 15 minutes they failed to exert the usual and required authority to stop a clearly unrestrained Eastcote team.
Henley had not even had possession of the ball before going behind after just a minute from a penalty corner. The second followed soon after following a defensive malfunction and the third came in similar fashion.
The Amber and Blues then began to keep possession, which allowed their forwards to exploit space behind their markers and forge chances, one of which was put away at the second time of asking by Fred Newbold after a Slay aerial ball from right back. Jody Measures converted a well-worked penalty corner for his 14th of the season.
After the break, Henley dominated for large periods but failed to take advantage, although the extra pressure triggered some disciplinary lapses that meant Eastcote played with 10 men for much of the second half.
Eventually, Richard Woolfrey was on hand to clip the ball past the keeper for the equaliser but Eastcote held on for the last 15 minutes.
Henley 2nds: D Herbert, J Clarke, I Roberts, A Slay, J Ruggiero, S Hall, R Woolfrey, J Measures, F Newbold, J Draycott, D Bowyer, L Peachey.
