What a difference design can make

CLEVER design can transform an old driveway into a beautiful front garden with parking.

CLEVER design can transform an old driveway into a beautiful front garden with parking.

The space at the front of the property in question was used mainly for car parking and had a very utilitarian look with Seventies concrete as the main building material. There was, however, huge potential to create a charming front garden with impressive planted borders and a beautifully paved parking area. There is no reason why a functional driveway shouldn’t be designed as a garden, blending with the architecture of the house, to make homecoming a welcoming experience.

I used a pastel coloured block paving brick in herringbone pattern to replace the concrete creating a warm look and stunning space to park the cars.

A small tree was planted to provide a focal point with its evergreen leaves and berries for wildlife and winter interest. Generous gravel borders were dotted with season-long flowering shrubs such as hydrangeas and verbena.

All very relaxed and low maintenance!
