How a planting scheme can transform a garden

A PROPERLY designed planting scheme can really transform a garden.

A PROPERLY designed planting scheme can really transform a garden.

Whether you are watching on TV or visiting in person, the Chelsea Flower Show will have everyone thinking about how their garden is looking this week — and possibly wondering how things could be improved.

Using a professional garden designer to create new planting plans can transform a garden beyond recognition.

Janet Myall at Hortus Garden Design is highly experienced in producing beautiful planting schemes for all sizes and types of gardens.

She provides clients with plants that may not be available in garden centres, such as those precious species only seen in very special gardens.

Her aim is to use plants with a long flowering season to avoid patches of unattractive foliage at key times of the year. Instead of the bare greenness of August, her planting schemes contain flowering plants that continue as freshly as they were in the early summer.

It’s also important to think beyond summer and to include evergreen species to carry interest through the entire year. Use of grasses adds another dimension by providing fresh, green leafy interest in the summer followed by autumnal foliage with attractive seed heads continuing throughout the winter into spring.

The picture (above) shows one of her planting schemes with an interesting array of plants and a stunning small tree.
