Writer thrills duchess with talk to prisoners

THRILLER writer Simon Kernick has a new fan — the Duchess of Cornwall.

The pair met when they were both visiting Coldingley Prison in Bisley, Surrey.

Simon, who lives in Shiplake, was talking to inmates as part of a campaign to promote literacy in jails and the Duchess was finding out how prisoners are helped to prepare for their release.

She listened with the inmates as the writer talked about his short story Wrong Time, Wrong Place, which he wrote in 2012 for the literacy charity Quick Reads.

Simon says: “She was extremely warm and friendly. She was genuinely interested in talking with the group and with me.
