HENLEY’S Leo Robinson ended a successful first season of racing in the MSA Bambino Championship with a dramatic fourth position at the challenging Rowrah circuit in Cumbria.
Prior to the final race weekend Robinson held a 17 point advantage over his nearest championship rival. He drove competitively in the three qualifying heats, leading two of them until a few laps before the end.
For the final, Robinson was drawn in eighth position but started well, passing four of the karts in front of him within the first few laps. He then matched the eventual podium finishers but could not overhaul them.
Although he lost 16 points to his main championship rival over the weekend, Robinson’s fourth place finish was sufficient for him to win the rookie title by a single point.
Robinson finished fifth in the overall championship standings despite being the youngest driver in the competition for six to eight-year-olds.
With three of the top drivers moving up to the cadet class (for eight to 13-year-olds) next year, Rupert House pupil Robinson will start 2016 as the second ranked driver.
