THERE was a new kid on the block at last week’s Geneva Motor Show, a brand that will be made in China but with distinctly European roots and styling.
Qoros is a joint venture between China’s Chery Automobile and Israel Corporation, an industrial investment company founded in 1968 to attract foreign investors to help develop Israel.
It has been majority owned by the Ofer Group, originally a shipping company, since 1999. At Geneva it unveiled a production version of the GQ3 compact family saloon.
NISSAN at Geneva moved to alleviate range anxiety — the fear of running out of juice — in its LEAF electric car, by extending the number of miles it can cover and improving the battery charge time. The latest LEAF, which goes into production at Nissan’s UK factory in Sunderland later this month has been reworked to allow re-charge in half the time. Range has been extended to 125 miles.
KIA unveiled its cee’d GT models and the Provo concept vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show. Unfortunately the Provo concept’s name caused a stir in the UK, particularly in Northern Ireland.According to Kia insiders, however, if Provo goes into production, this will not be its name in the UK.
