Musical worlds will collide live on stage

ECLECTIC music group the Deco Ensemble are bringing a rich blend of influences to Norden Farm in Maidenhead

ECLECTIC music group the Deco Ensemble are bringing a rich blend of influences to Norden Farm in Maidenhead next weekend.

The band, who have been hailed as one of Britain’s finest tango quintets, play the Altwood Road venue on Saturday, August 6.

Formed in 2013, the group mix classical, jazz and world music elements to create a modern tango sound.

They combine classical masterpieces and little-known gems featuring rich harmonies and bold rhythms, with works by Prokofiev, Ravel, modern classical composers and tango masters among their repertoire.

The band are particularly inspired by Astor Piazzolla’s music. Back in the Sixties, Piazzolla laid down the foundations of tango nuevo writing and Deco Ensemble reimagine those sounds. Since forming they have toured across Europe, playing sold-out shows in Glasgow, Brussels and Rome — as well as performing at London’s Wigmore Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.

The band’s line-up features Sabina Rakcheyeva (violin), Bartosz Glowacki (accordion/accordina), Ricardo Gosalbo (piano), Robert Luft (electric guitar) and Elena Marigómez (double bass).

Starting at 8pm, their Maidenhead show will see them performing a programme of works by Astor Piazzolla, Gustavo Beytelmann and Ramiro Gallo.

Tickets are £14, available by calling the box office on 01628 788997 or online at www.nordenfarm.org
