Opera bids for award

GARSINGTON Opera has been nominated in the best festival category of the International Opera Awards.

It is the second time it has been nominated in the category since the awards were established in 2012.

Garsington is vying for the award with international festivals such as France’s Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Lyon Festival, the Festival Verdi in Parma and the Spoleto Festival in America.

Louise Alder, who performed in the acclaimed 2016 production of Idomeneo, has been nominated in the young singer category, together with Jennifer France and Sam Furness, who will be performing at Garsington this summer.

The awards are an annual celebration of excellence in opera around the world and attract leading opera professionals. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London’s Coliseum on May 7.
