Nettlebed nets folk sensation

LEGENDARY singer Maddy Prior will make a one-night appearance at the Nettlebed Folk Club on Monday.

Maddy, the voice of Eighties folk-rock group Steeleye Span, will play with her new musical partners, Giles Lewin of the Carnival Band and accordion player Hannah James. She will perform music of the British Isles and Eastern Europe. Maddy built her career on exploring traditional English music and her latest album 3 For Joy follows along the same lines.

Steeleye Span was formed in 1969 and with their first big hit single Gaudete in 1971 they established themselves at the forefront of the British folk revival, alongside Fairport Convention. The band’s other big hit, All Around My Hat, made it to number five in the UK singles chart in 1975.

In recent years Maddy has released solo albums and has toured with the Carnival Band. In May she will play the Stepping Stones festival with Steeleye Span.

The concert at Nettlebed is on Monday, April 14 at 8pm. For tickets call the box office on 01628 636620 or visit www. nettlebedfolkclub.co.uk
