Date for your little red book

Date for your little red book
THERE have been so many artistes singing in the doo-wap band The Drifters over the years that you can’t help thinking they’ve earned their name, writes Lesley Potter.

The band, famous for huge soul hits such as Under The Boardwalk, Saturday Night at the Movies, Kissin’ In The Back Row and More Than a Number in my Little Red Book, was first set up in 1953 as a backing group and last year celebrated their 60th anniversary with a Diamond Dynasty World Tour.

Now the latest line-up — Pierre Herelle, Michael Williams, Ryan King and Carlton Powell — are on the road again, and are making a stop-off at the Wycombe Swan as part of their nationwide Optimum Tour.

A spokesman said: “This is our most spectacular show to date. We are proud to bring a fast moving, exhilarating show bringing the optimum of our own historical legacy along with events, people and culture over the decades of the dynasty, along with brand new recordings.”

The Drifters play at the Wycombe Swan on Saturday, April 19. Visit www.wycombeswan.co.uk
