FOLLOWING his sold out three-date tour with Oxford Philomusica last June, Nigel Kennedy is making a hotly anticipated return visit to play with the renowned orchestra in their home city next month, writes Lesley Potter.
He will be at the New Theatre Oxford on Tuesday, June 3 when he will join Oxford Philomusica in a programme consisting of music from the pen of one of his favourite composers: Brahms. The orchestra, conducted by its founder and music director Marios Papadopoulos, will open the concert with the composer’s Third Symphony.
Then, the violin virtuoso — one of the world’s most famous — will take to the stage to play Brahms’ Violin Concerto.
Kennedy’s first landmark recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons earned him a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the best-selling classical work of all time, selling more than two million copies, and the album remained top of the UK classical charts for almost two years.
