Pop and corn gig

SPRING is here, the sap is rising — and a group of musicians will help it on its way with an evening of invigorating rock’n’roll, swing and humour at the Wallingford Corn Exchange, writes Lesley Potter.

Three acts take to the stage tomorrow night (Saturday) in an Equinox Rocks night to raise money for the building’s maintenance — the front and the roof are among the priorities.

Local celebrity comic songwriter Pete Orton is among the attractions. He will be joined by the acclaimed swing era devotees, Gin Swing, and rock-pop outfit The Joint Is Jumping.

Tickets are £9 and the artists are donating their time to help the Corn Exchange.

All three acts have strong connections with the arts centre through the Sinodun Players as performers, directors, writers, musicians, producers and supporters.

“We hope this will be a bit of a party for everyone,” says producer and band member, Mike Rowbottom.

“We’re putting on a show with some proven musicians — we all play regularly for parties, festivals and anniversaries — and at the same time we’re putting some money into the Corn Exchange. It’s a unique facility and takes a lot of work to keep it running, but we might as well have some fun at the same time.”

Tickets are available from the Corn Exchange box office on online.
