RADIO 2 DJ and housewives’ favourite Ken Bruce will be the compere for a special concert celebrating the indomitable British Dunkirk spirit later this year at the Wycombe Swan.

Encore! A Salute To The Dambusters Generation will feature classic wartime themes such as The Dambusters March and Bridge Over The River Kwai, as well as Forties numbers made famous by artists such as the Andrews Sisters and Glenn Miller.

The concert, staged in support of the RAF Charitable Trust, will feature the Central Band of the RAF plus the big band sound of the Squadronaires. The conductor will be the RAF’s principal director of music, Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs.

Concert organiser Philippa Hayday-Brown said the show would be a salute to the “Bulldog spirit”.

She said: “The Dambusters raid was just one example of how ordinary people were able to achieve incredible things. In this case, necessity certainly was the mother of invention.”

Also in the programme will be a newly-commissioned Dambusters tribute, March Barnes Wallis, by composer Nigel Hess who has written TV theme tunes for programmes such as Wycliffe and Dangerfield.

lEncore! A Salute To The Dambusters Generation will be at the Wycombe Swan on Thursday, October 24. Box office 01494 512000 or visit www.wycombeswan.co.uk
