Student releases début EP

SINGER and songwriter Matt Maltese is to release his first EP on iTunes.

SINGER and songwriter Matt Maltese is to release his first EP on iTunes.

The 17-year-old Henley College student was talent-spotted after releasing a demo of his song Good Old Days. The track caught the attention of an executive from designer fashion brand Burberry, and Matt was offered the chance to record the song for their Burberry Acoustic series.

The EP, Further Than I Should, will be available to download from iTunes and other music platforms from April 8.

Matt said: “Recording the EP has been a hard and long process, but I’m really proud of the end result.

“The Henley College has created some great opportunities for me, and singing with Rebecca Poole at our January concert in the Kenton Theatre was such a memorable experience.

“To meet like-minded musicians at the college has been fantastic.”

The former Oratory School student says he owes much of his musicality to his family — his mother, Jill, was a professional opera singer and now coaches, and his grandfather was a jazz trumpeter.

His career has gone from strength to strength since he reached the final of the Open Mic UK competition last year, performing at the O2 Arena in London last January. In July, he was invited to play a one-hour set on the Indigo Stage at the Henley Festival.
