READING Bach Choir brings a vision of good triumphing over evil to the Reading Minster next Saturday with their Christmas
READING Bach Choir brings a vision of good triumphing over evil to the Reading Minster next Saturday with their Christmas concert, Americana.
In the summer of 1935 the Worcester Art Museum acquired a version of The Peaceable Kingdom by the American primitive painter Edward Hicks. Composer Randall Thompson went to view the painting and was so inspired by the depiction of Armageddon and Hicks’ use of the theme of the wicked being destroyed and the good going to heaven that he was moved to write a piece of choral music.
Thompson’s The Peaceable Kingdom will be sung alongside a selection of other American compositions including William Billings’ From The Continental Harmony and Elliott Carter’s Musicians Wrestle Everywhere. The concert will be conducted by Matthew Hamilton.
Tickets for the concert on November 16 are £12, concessions £10, Students/16-18s £8, U16s £5 are available on email: tickets@readingbach choir.org or by phone on 0118 947 8097.
