A PERFORMANCE of Beethoven’s only opera and a special tribute to the composer form part of next year’s Garsington Opera season.
The opera company, based at the Wormsley Estate, will stage the British première of Offenbach’s Vert-Vert and Janácek’s The Cunning Little Vixen as well as Beethoven’s Fidelio as part as its 25th anniversary series.
To coincide with the centenary of the First World War, Garsington is to stage a special commemorative day on July 5, Peace In Our Time, which will focus on Beethoven’s libertarian ideas and will feature talks, master classes, a recital by cellist Steven Isserlis among other items. The weekend will be rounded off with a commemorative concert on July 6 with a programme of Beethoven including Egmont Incidental Music and his Symphony Number 9 performed by the Garsington Opera Orchestra and chorus.
For the third year running, East Lindsey District Council will relay one of the opera productions — this year Vert-Vert — on to the beach at Skegness as part of the festival.
