A RISING folk star will be performing at Norden Farm in Maidenhead next month.

A RISING folk star will be performing at Norden Farm in Maidenhead next month.

Gary Stewart, who hails from Scotland but now lives in Yorkshire started playing the drums aged 13.

He then picked up orchestral percussion and went on to study it at Leeds University during which time he joined a band, wrote songs and played open mic nghts.

Gary, who has started to receive airtime on BBC radio, has released two albums and an EP and a new album is on the way.

His music is influenced by the likes of classic singers and songwriters such as Paul Simon, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and Carole King and his folk songs are often based around love and paranoia.

Gary has performed across the festival circuit, including Kendal Calling, Greenman and Glastonbury. He has also supported Manchester rock band James on tour.

As well as playing his own music, Gary is a multi-instrumentalist. He has performed with other groups including playing guitar for Rosie Doonan and previous Norden Farm performers Gilmore and Roberts.

Gary will be playing an evening of acoustic folk music in Norden Farm’s intimate Studio Space on September 2 and starts at 8pm. Tickets are £7 and are available from the Box Office on 01628 788997 or online at www.nordenfarm.org
