Female voice choir's mix of old and new

Female voice choir's mix of old and new

AN eclectic mix of singalong carols and new music by living composers will make up the repertoire for this year’s Christmas concert by the Tapestry Female Voice Choir.

Traditional songs like The Holly and the Ivy and Winter Wonderland are given a modern twist, while those who enjoy contemporary music will appreciate brand new works by Christopher Fox and rising stars Kerry Andrew and John Barber.

“There will be something for everyone,” says musical director Sarah Latto, “and also plenty of opportunity for the audience to join in. There’s nothing like a singalong to get everyone in the Christmas mood.”

Sarah, who grew up in Caversham, studied music at Cambridge. She is musical director with the arts department at Brunel University and has been leading the 16-strong Tapestry ensemble, which rehearses in Charvil, for the past five years.

Tapestry’s Christmas concert takes place at the Old Hall, Queen Anne’s School, on Saturday, December 17.

The programme includes Ave Maria by Franz Biebl, excerpts from Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, A Christmas Round by Paul Ayres and A Dream of Winter by Christopher Fox.

Tickets are £12, including seasonal refreshments. Under-12s are admitted free.

For tickets, call 0118 9461647 or order online at www.tapestrychoir.org.uk
