THE planned launch of the Mill at Sonning’s newly refurbished Waterwheel Bar sadly proved something
THE planned launch of the Mill at Sonning’s newly refurbished Waterwheel Bar sadly proved something of a washout on Tuesday, thanks to an untimely power cut — but the good news is that it’s now happening tonight (Friday) instead.
Tuesday’s event was set to see the bar open to the public from 11am to 5pm, with the press invited along for 1pm — but then disaster struck.
Managing director Sally Hughes said: “At 12 o’clock suddenly all the electricity went off and there was a big power cut in the area — 750 places were cut off — and we didn’t get it back on until after two o’clock.
“Bad timing. So we cancelled the press coming. We had to because we couldn’t put any food on or do any cappuccinos or anything.
“So what we’re doing is we’ve invited everyone back for tonight because what’s happening in the bar every Friday is that Glyn Kerslake and Elaine Glover will be singing at the same time as the show going on in the theatre.
“Glyn is a wonderful singer-pianist who played Phantom in the West End. Elaine’s absolutely amazing — she has the most gorgeous voice and plays the guitar.
“We’ve got bar food on sale from 7.30pm — paninis and homemade soups and cheese boards and so on — and then at 8.30pm Glyn and Elaine start their first set.”
The talented duo will also perform a second set at 9.50pm. Entry is free and the bar is open to all, with free Wi-Fi available. As Sally explained, the refurbishment of the bar is part of a long-term plan.
“We’re moving up into the restaurant next year, refurbishing that and doing a slightly different service in the restaurant — it’s going to be beautiful.”
On Sunday evening there is more live music on offer at the Mill when local Shadows tribute act The Bourne Again Shadows take the stage.
The band will be backing leading Cliff Richard tribute artist Simon Goodall, who they successfully performed with at the venue last year.
