CLASSICAL music fans are in for a treat next month when Dame Evelyn Glennie joins the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for an explosive performance of new works.

The percussionist, who played a memorable role in the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, will be in concert at the Hexagon in Reading on Wednesday, June 8.

The programme for the 7.30pm concert includes Dreamachine, a new composition by Michael Daugherty, and a new work by Debbie Wiseman written to celebrate Glennie’s 50th birthday last summer.

The evening opens with a performance of Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande Op 80 and closes with Sibelius’s magnificent Symphony No 5 in E flat Major.

Nicholas Collon will conduct, and classical fans have the option of attending a free pre-concert talk in the auditorium at 6.30pm.
