Musical director’s last bow

PANGBOURNE Choral Society’s summer concert tomorrow (Saturday) is to be the last one conducted by music director

PANGBOURNE Choral Society’s summer concert tomorrow (Saturday) is to be the last one conducted by music director Roy Raby, it has been annnounced.

To honour the occasion, the society is joining forces with the Wantage Silver Bnd to perform a selection of choral favourites.

The concert takes place from 7.30pm in the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel at Pangbourne College.

“This is yet another first for PCS,” said the society’s chairman, Diana Smith. “We have never performed with a silver band before. The concert will mark Roy Raby’s departure following three successful years that had its climax last March with our highly acclaimed debut performance of Bach’s B Minor Mass. We are all looking forward to this new experience and to bidding a fond farewell to Roy.”

The programme includes works by Rutter, Parry, Elgar, Wesley and Bainton — not to mention Roy Raby’s own work, All Will Be Well.

In addition, the Wantage Silver Band will perform some orchestral pieces.

Tickets for the concert are £15 for adults and £8 for ages 18 and under. They can be purchased in advance from choral society members, Garlands Organic in Reading Road, Pangbourne, or on the door on the night.
