Rules of adoption

ANYBODY who wants to offer the pigs a new home will need a county parish holding number, which is issued by the Rural Payments Agency.

Existing pig-keepers would need to have an isolation facility in which to house the pigs for a period of 20 days in order to ensure that they do not contaminate the standing herd with any diseases they may be carrying.

They would also need to employ good bio-security practices to minimise this risk.

Anyone new to pig-keeping would need to be aware of, and comply with, legislation that prohibits the feeding of waste food to pigs.

If you are interested in rehoming the pigs, call Oxfordshire County Council’s animal health team on 01865 815412 or email trading.standards@oxfordshire.gov.uk
