Overwork kills entry

WATLINGTON will not enter the Britain in Bloom competition this year.

WATLINGTON will not enter the Britain in Bloom competition this year.

Last year the town was awarded silver gilt in the large village category for the Thames and Chilterns Region, even though it was the only entrant.

The Watlington in Bloom group also won two It’s Your Neighbourhood community group awards for Hurdler’s Green and Mansle Gardens and the judges praised the group for an environmentally friendly campaign.

But Terry Jackson, who chairs the group, said entering the competition was “a lot of work” for the three people on the committee.

She said: “I think people in Watlington think we’re a big group and we’re not. We thought if we gave it a year to get more support and come back next year it will be a more meaningful campaign.”

The town will still host a open gardens day and and a horticultural show this year.
