Allotments inspected by council

Henley?s two allotment sites have been inspected by members of the town council.

Henley?s two allotment sites have been inspected by members of the town council.

Councillors Sam Evans, David Eggleton and Julian Brookes spent a morning at the Waterman?s allotments, off Reading Road, and the Greencroft allotments, off Matson Drive.

They were shown around by members of the allotments association, which looks after 190 plots and rents them out on the council?s behalf. Chairman Andrew Hawkins said: ?I?m very grateful for the visit. I have been chairman for 11 years and in all that time I don?t think I ever saw a councillor unless they had a plot.?

He presented Cllr Evans with some chrysanthemums. She said: ?They told us the relationship with the town council couldn?t be better, which I was very pleased to hear. The Waterman?s site wasn?t always properly looked after but Andrew has put in a huge amount of work and both sites are now managed really well.? Left to right, Doug Richards (Watermans manager), Cllrs Evans and Brookes, allotment holder Marisa Francini, Cllr Eggleton and Mr Hawkins.
