Agreement over 100 new trees

A TREE committee is to be set up by Sonning Common Parish Council.

A TREE committee is to be set up by Sonning Common Parish Council.

It will be responsible for the planting the trees around the village.

It follows an offer by James Stone, of Lambourne Road, to plant 100 trees in return for being granted planning permission for two new houses in Grove Road.

Councillor Tom Fort said any trees to be planted this year should be done by the end of next month to prevent any risk of them dying.

Councillor Chrissie Phillips Tilbury, who organises the Village Gardeners, said: “I am really delighted we’re going to have more trees but I am concerned about the watering.

“I realise they need a huge amount of water after they are planted and the Village Gardeners would not be able to take that on.”

Parish clerk Philip Collings suggested the trees should be planted over the next two years as it would make them easier to care for.

He also suggested working out the cost of the trees and then asking Mr Stone for that amount. Mr Stone agreed.
