Help plea for bloom

A CALL has been made for more volunteers to come forward so that Watlington

A CALL has been made for more volunteers to come forward so that Watlington can enter this year’s Britain in Bloom competition.

The town didn’t enter last year but in 2014 it won silver gilt in the large village category for the Thames and Chilterns region and two It’s Your Neighbourhood community group awards.

Terry Jackson, who chairs the group, said: “Many hands make light work but more volunteers would not only benefit the whole community but would also enhance our entry in the eyes of the Royal Horticultural Society judges who are looking for widespread community involvement.

“You don’t need to be green-fingered — it’s not about flowers, it’s about being part of the community.

“This year there is a lot going on with the Watlington Environment Group, the Watercourses Group and the Friends of Watlington Hill that could be used in presentations.

“If we could also gather a group of people to work together it would benefit the wider community at a time when Oxfordshire County Council is making cuts that will affect us all.”

If you can help, call Mrs Jackson on (01491) 613362 or email tjacks@waitrose.com
