Welcome for walkers

HENLEY in Bloom has backed a new walking initiative in the town.

HENLEY in Bloom has backed a new walking initiative in the town.

Walkers are Welcome is a national scheme which encourages towns and villages to be more welcoming to walkers.

Part of the project would see leaflets with a map to encourage residents and visitors to use local footpaths. The leaflets would highlight points of interest.

If businesses were willing to sponsor the cost of the leaflet, they would be included on it.

The bloom commitee agreed to support the Walkers are Welcome, a non-profit community interest company, as it helps them with judging for Royal Horticultural Society competitions such as Thames and Chilterns in Bloom and Britain in Bloom.

The company helps with judging criteria, such as conservation and biodiversity, local heritage and community participation.

Residents can sign a petition in support of the scheme. Visit www.thepetitionsite.com/124/899/548/petition-to-make-henley-on-thames-a-walkers-are-welcome-town
