Nettlebed are sunk by Netchix late flurry

A STERLING fightback by Nettlebed Stingers was not enough as Netchix ran out winners last week.

A STERLING fightback by Nettlebed Stingers was not enough as Netchix ran out winners last week.

The Stingers, without captain and centre Scarlett King saw Clare McCarthy play in this position and in the first quarter ensured that play was frequently turned back to Stingers’ advantage, intercepting passes and taking advantage of errors.

With Chloe Mordue and Totie Southwell both keeping good space and shooting accurately, Stingers were the first on the score card. Marking was kept tight and Sarah Roberts at WD was determined to keep play out of the circle which was done with great effect.

In the circle Chanti Stubbs used her height to its full advantage and put pressure on the shooter and options were kept to a minimum. This forced shooting from a distance, but with a goal shooter for Netchix in fine form the Stingers found themselves two goals behind at half-time.

The third quarter saw good spacing and the Stingers’ finding their rhythm and flow of play. Siggy Lee’s leaping and stretching kept play in Stingers’ favour in centre court. The pace was fast, but saw everyone on the court putting in all their effort. This was matched in equal measure by Netchix who stretched their lead to four goals.

The final quarter saw Claire Priddy move to WA. With Emma Johnson in GD keeping the GA out of the circle and turning play back to Stingers’ advantage the Stingers were soon level at 18 each.

However, this form was not maintained as Netchix managed to net four more goals without reply to secure victory.
