SHIPLAKE triumphed in their second match of the season against Oxford’s Magdalen College on Wednesday of last week.
Throughout the first quarter, the ball remained most in the Shiplake attacking end, with swift passing between Libby Harman, Hannah Cartwright and Sophie Arnold keeping possession of the ball before supplying Chloe Goodman in the goal circle.
The Shiplake defence made several key interceptions which resulted in only three goals being scored by Magdalen compared to Shiplake’s 10. In the second and third quarters, Magdalen hit back, scoring seven goals in the process. However, Shiplake’s fine play in both attack and defence extended their own score to 18 goals.
In the last quarter, Shiplake succeeded in keeping the ball out of Magdalen’s goal circle and accurate passing down the court followed by rebounds from Goodman helped to secure a nine-goal victory. Captain Sophie Arnold was awarded player-of-the-match.
