THE High Fives team from Valley Road School were crowned winners of the Oxfordshire School Games Tournament.

THE High Fives team from Valley Road School were crowned winners of the Oxfordshire School Games Tournament.

Following a run of wins at local and district competitions, the Henley-based school competed in the finals at the new community arena in Oxford.

The tournament got off to a flying start for Valley Road with a 6-0 victory over Millbrook School with the shooting partnership of Amelia Hanson and Jem McAllister impressing.

The next match provided another flurry of goals from shooters Christian Oswald and Edward Roy leading to a 9-2 victory over Burford Primary School. Some tight defence from Poppy Priestley and Katie Knight and good centre court play from Della Luke saw the side through third group matches into the final undefeated.

In a close final against Benson Primary School, the Valley Road side ran out narrow 3-2 winners in a close encounter.

Benson went into the lead but sterling defence from Bronte Pye meant their shooting options were limited and Valley Road’s solid team play pushed them through victory.

Valley Road School High Fives: Christian Oswald, Bronte Pye, Amelia Hanson, Katie Knight, Della Luke, Poppy Priestley, Jem Mcallister, Edward Roy.
