A BOY from Ewelme is trying to raise £895 to pay for the trip of a lifetime.
Elliot Ford, 12, of Martyn’s Way, is desperate to secure a place on a school trip to Morocco next Easter.
The year seven pupil at Icknield Community College says he is determined to raise the money himself.
He said: “I am not that confident but I think the trip will make me do it. I want to see how people live in poorer parts of the world. I have only been to Spain, where my granddad lives, and I want the challenge of raising the money in time.”
The trip will involve camping, walking up to seven hours a day and teaching English in a school in Marrakesh.
Elliot started to fund-raise last week and has already raised £247. He is planning to take part in a 5km fun run and to hold cake sales.
Elliot said: “I could have gone to my mum and dad and asked for the money but I want to be independent and earn the money instead.”
His father, Andrew, was thrilled at his son’s determination. He said: “We were quite taken aback, firstly that Elliot was interested in going on the trip and then his idea of fund-raising, which he seems to have really got hold of.
“I think if he carries on the way he has done so far he will raise the money. He is very determined.”
Elliot’s mother, Shelley, added: “I’m very proud of him. He has suffered with anxiety issues in the past so for him this is an amazing leap in confidence.”
The first cake sale will be at Ewelme village store next Friday (July 13) from 3pm to 4.30pm. To pledge money, email Mrs Ford at shelley.ford@btinternet.com
