Forget Murray, table tennis is back
Published 17/09/12

THE NEW Reading & District Table Tennis league season gets underway this week with the Sonning Common & Peppard club entering seven teams across the six divisions.

The club play home matches at the Peppard Memorial Hall and also currently run both adult and junior coaching sessions.

Folling the B teams promotion last season the club now has two teams in the top division. Simon Berry and Jason Roberts should see the A team avoid too much trouble at the bottom with Nigel Maltby and Paul Jarvis making up their squad. The B team may find the going tough but with Keith Swain and Malcolm Gregory in their side they are capable of survival.

In Division 2 a reformed C team are given another chance at this level with Tim Raby, Matt Stone and Jeremy Willis keen to give Division 2 another go. Carol Chiu and Martyn Fenner are also added to their squad. Mark Corbett, Jon Abbott, Paul Treadgold and Ian Ayres could figure highly in Division 3 for the D team. In Division 5 Danny Dockree and Michael Legg step up from Division 6 to the E team to play alongside the experienced Derek Wavell and Jim McClure, while the F team will be keen to do well this year with Tony House and Dave Aust leading their challenge.

In Division 6 the G team welcome back Matt Tarrant after several seasons away and give league debuts to Angus Jones and Julian James, both of whom should do well alongside both Derek Maltby and Albert Shephard. Steve Knott enjoyed a good opening season last time around and having benefitted from the clubs coaching initiative, his results should see further improvement.

Anyone interested in play league table tennis or attending adult or junior coaching sessions on Friday evenings can contact Nigel Maltby at n.maltby587@btinternet.com for further deatils.
