A PROPERTY developer from Nettlebed has launched a vintage furniture website. Helma Marlow, who founded Hamilton Properties with her husband Andrew, has set up Very Vintage Furniture with her friend David Williams.
She hopes the business will enable customers to purchase antique pieces at a similar price to mass-produced ones.
“We are trying to produce individual furniture with a bit of character, which I hope people will see as good value,” she said. “We think we have got a bit of a niche here because the furniture is going to have lumps and bumps although we will do a little bit of renovation if it needs it.”
Mrs Marlow, who lives in Watlington Road, and Mr Williams decided to start their own company after hearing of another friend who started a company on eBay.
She said: “David has always found lovely individual pieces for his house, which I know he hasn’t paid a lot for. He has the vision which means he chooses pieces other people wouldn’t dream of and makes them look fantastic. His house always looks stunning.”
Mr Williams, who lives in Devon where he teaches music and works as a painter and decorater, plans to source a van-load of furniture and then drive it to Henley once a month in order for it to be sold.
The website displays their first selection of furniture, including tables and chairs, all of which are Victorian or younger. Visit website www.veryvintagefurniture.co.uk or contact: 07814 720584.
